Potato pride has returned to the Gem State as Idaho officially reclaimed the Guinness World Record for the world's largest serving of French fries. During the annual Boise Potato Days festival, a dedicated team organized by the Idaho Potato Commission and local entrepreneur Thomas Watson—famously known as 'Spud Daddy'—worked tirelessly to slice, fry, and weigh a staggering 1,474 pounds of fresh-cut fries.
The high-stakes culinary effort required six industrial-grade deep fryers and a crew of 50 energetic volunteers who processed over 1,700 pounds of raw Idaho potatoes to pull off the feat. An official adjudicator from Guinness World Records was present on site to verify the final weight, confirming that Idaho had surpassed the previous record of 1,452.85 pounds held by India since 2018.
Idaho originally established the world record back in 2014, but lost the title to Greece in 2017 before it moved to India a year later. Organizers expressed immense pride in bringing the honor back home to the state renowned for its spuds, noting that a record celebrating French fries rightfully belongs in Idaho. Following the weigh-in, the monumental mountain of freshly fried potatoes was distributed for free to hundreds of delighted festival attendees.
