Visitors entering the famed Salle des États at Paris's Louvre Museum over the weekend got an unexpected double feature alongside Leonardo da Vinci's world-famous *Mona Lisa*. Two German tourists decided to expand the gallery's collection on their own terms by surreptitiously sticking two of their personal, small-scale canvas paintings onto the museum wall using adhesive tape.
The makeshift exhibit featured two 30-by-40 centimeter artworks—one depicting one of the men clad in knight's armor, and the second showcasing a group portrait of both men alongside a female companion. The pair managed to mount the canvases directly onto the wall near Da Vinci's masterpiece before vigilant security personnel intercepted them and alerted law enforcement.
Upon being detained and questioned by French police regarding their unauthorized installation, the duo casually explained that they had staged the entire operation simply "for fun." Although the museum noted minor cosmetic tape damage to the wall surface, the *Mona Lisa* itself remained entirely unharmed behind its reinforced bulletproof glass enclosure. The lighthearted art heist ultimately ended with the two pranksters facing formal legal proceedings.
